When you’re proud of your school and the great work they do for the state and community, you want to make sure people can find it. With agricultural schools, like how Utah State University began, your bread and butter is, well, agriculture. And with a nick name like Aggies, you know animal husbandry is high on the list of priorities. Many agricultural schools across the US, Utah State included, have extension centers and other facilities located across their individual states. For Utah State, one such extension location was part of some State property next to a city park in South Jordan, Utah. The problem was, the entrance was difficult to find, and it certainly didn’t credit Utah State for the great work done beyond the gate. That’s when a group of alumni donors stepped in to make great things happen.
Be True to Your School
A designer was selected, and working closely with JLR Contractors, a plan was set in motion to make a statement for the entry to the Utah State extension. Not just any statement, but one that would reflect the rustic west and ranch style.
The design was a gateway arch. Concrete columns were constructed on either side of the road, with a steel beam spanning the columns. Then, the beam was covered with a wooden veneer to provide the natural look. As for the concrete columns? That’s where American Stone came in.
After searching different stone yards, the designated alumni representative came to American Stone. Consulting with the American Stone team, the rep found the perfect stone.
American Stone crafted the capstones out of Sunrise, and Autumn Gold selects were selected to cover the columns. The beauty and texture of the stone, provided a bold timeless look.
The facility hosts a variety of events throughout the year, ranging from car shows to rodeos. Now, when events are held at the facility, everyone is greeted by a striking gateway that gives people a taste of the excitement on the other side.
